The Singapore Zoological Gardens & Night SafariTowards the north of the island of Singapore, The Singapore Zoological Gardens is largely an "open" zoo, using natural barriers rather than iron bars. Over 170 animals live here, including many which are rare or endangered, such as orang-utans, Sumatran tigers, Komodo dragons and clouded leopards. Daily attractions include breakfast or tea with an orang-utan and Animal Showtime.
The Night Safari offers an opportunity to see the many nocturnal animals in their natural habitat. It is open from 18:00-24:00 every day.
Parks & GardensSingapore has been developing itself as "The Garden City". There are numerous urban parks and gardens open to the public; details are available on the Singapore National Parks Board website. A selection of Singapore parksThe Botanic Gardens: Over 47 hectares of landscaped parkland and primary jungle are situated to the west of the city (Napier/Cluny roads), and are home to a wide range of animal and plant life. The gardens are particularly well known for their orchids of which it has the largest collection in the world. Open: 05:00-23:00 Monday to Friday and until midnight at weekends and public holidays. Admission is free. There is a small charge to visit the Orchid Gardens. Pulau Ubin: The pace of life is completely different on this island just a short distance from the main island of Singapore. Rent a mountain bike or hike around. Go into the rubber plantation, bash through the jungle and study the plants. Or bring a tent and camp on the beach. To get there take a bumboat ride from Changi Point Ferry Terminal. Boats run from sunrise to sunset, but special arrangements may be made with the boatmen for trips after dark. Fort Canning Park: On Fort Canning Rise there was once an ancient fort of the Malay kings covering seven acres. The ruins still survive, as does a 19th-century Christian cemetery. The fort is also a venue for outdoor and indoor performances and events. Museums & MonumentsThe Asian Civilisations Museum offers a broad yet integrated perspective of pan-Asian cultures and civilisations. it is presently undergoing an overhaul and will re-open in 2008, however the events and activities are still taking place there.
The Malay Heritage Centre allows visitors to walk through a kampong setting to relive the old living conditions of the Malay community.
The National Museum of Singapore allows an interesting insight into the history of Singapore.
The Singapore Art Museum is Singapore's first museum devoted solely to the visual arts.

Fort Siloso: Fort Siloso is the actual remains of a World War II fort that was used to house anti-ship guns. There are remains of many cannons, the barracks, the tunnels, ammo dump and other military installations used during WWII. This place is decorated with mannequins of soldiers in replica of WWII uniforms and equipment. Hawker Centres: The hawker centres can be found in shopping centres and open air venues such as the Famous Newton Food Centre located near Newton MRT Station. All outlets are licensed and follow strict government guidelines. The food is generally excellent and very inexpensive. Arab Street, China Town, Little India: These are places where pockets of Asian culture can be found in this multi-racial city. Singapore, a hundred years ago, was a place for many people of different races to work. To avoid racial clashes, each race was assigned to live in a separate part of town. The Chinese stayed at what is now known as Chinatown. Little India is just like a town in India because of the multitudes of Indians there. Arab Street has many Mosques and fabric shops.
